About Housing Assistance

The Shared Housing Program connects home seekers with compatible home providers by registering and carefully matching all applicants. Shared Housing will also work with both parties to develop an agreement, provide mediation and recommendations, as well as stay in touch with clients once matches are made.

Anyone who is willing to share their good fortune may share a home, as well as those in situations where:

  • A home has become too large
  • They would like to share costs
  • They would enjoy the companionship of others
  • They can provide room/board in exchange for some assistance

Sharing a home can mean sharing skills too. A good sharing match may put a driver with a non-driver, or someone who likes to cook with someone who would rather clean.

Shared Housing Options

  • Straight Share – Two or more independent individuals sharing household costs
  • Intergenerational – A senior and an unrelated younger person sharing housing
  • Single Parents – Sharing ones home and assisting each other in child care and other activities of daily living
  • Barter Arrangements – An exchange of services (cooking, cleaning, driving) for room-board or some other financial arrangement
  • Physically Challenged Seekers & Providers – Where the home is disability accessible, share with another individual or a self-sufficient disabled person to benefit both
